Cheddar Cheese & Crackers Quilt Top - Completed

Cheddar Cheese & Crackers.  Designer: Lori D. Size 25-1/2" square
Loved piecing this and a definite challenge for me.  Looks really super.  Hand quilting is in the pipeline but it may have to wait some.

I've heard some good reviews on the YLI thread for hand quilting.  So when there was an opportunity for a swap with Merilyn, I requested for it and in turn I sent some linen for her new cross stitching adventures.  Clearly a win-win situation!  So now to try it out and really see for myself what the hype is all about :)

Mary Glover after the completion of Part 2.  I must mention that instead of DMC 437 I've changed it to DMC 436.  436 showed better on the sand linen.  Part 3 is already out.  I am currently trying to complete 1 motif from Mary Wigham.

6 Richmond

7 Log Cabin

8 Cotton Boll
The Civil War blocks are all caught up.  The Log Cabin block is wonky at best ... I can see why foundation paper piecing is used for Log Cabins.  I used Helen's instructions for the Cotton Boll block using the snowball method.  Their not my best work but it'll do for now.  Maybe I'm losing interest already ... I'll probably just do a few more enough for a lap quilt or a chair back and call it a day.

  2. Your Cheddar quilt looks lovely and you have used a good blend of colours. I used the YLI on my last little project and I found it very easy to work with. I did find it hard to find. I have fallen behind with the BB blocks but I will make them in my own time and maybe leave out a few along the way. It was very nice of you to help Merilyn. I have no doubt that she will be a great student instructed by a very clever and capable cross stitcher.

  10. Oh BJ! I love your Cheddar Cheese and Crackers. I think I am also going to go back to Lori's blog and make this one. I had not ever heard of her before someone told me about her doing Strawberry Fields. I just LOVE your version. Humm...working only from stash and no great amount of cheddar in that stash cupboard will be a problem. Did you need much of it?

I love your sampler. How long is this SAL? Will enjoy watching your progress.

The PS friendship charts you stitched up in your header are F*A*B*U*L*O*U*S! I have looked for them before and never found them. I think they would be so cute in a quilt. I have the alphabet charts to do and make a quilt from too.

And last but not least...you have really kept up with the CW BOW. I want to work on some today but need to catch up and then post about them.

Hope you have a great day on your side of the globe!

    Hugs from Holland ~

  11. it turned out fabulously~!!~

i've used the YLI thread and have to agree with Lori; it's a bit "stiff". the good thing about that is that it does not tangle as easily as finer threads do.

if i have a piece that i want to really look "old" then i use a finer thread as i think it adds to that antiqued/used appearance.

  12. Your Cheddar Cheese & Crackers top looks great! I can't wait to see how you hand quilt it--and what you think of the thread, too. Beautiful work on your quilt WIPs, and Mary, too!
