Amish Star quilt top - Completed

Amish Star Blocks quilt top.  1 Dusty pallete Kauffman roll-up.  Black Kona yardage for background and wide outer border and Gold Kona for narrow inner border.  Size: 81" x 81"
I am so happy that the Amish Star quilt top is completed.  It's quite majestic.  I finished it the night before my meet-up with Margaret W, Jackie O W, June, Lillie, Diane (Lillie's DD) and Paul the next morning.  I really pushed myself to finish it and so glad I did.  We had a good time chatting and stuffing our face! :)

The Burda blouse is also completed and even wore it for Sunday's brunch with above mentioned friends.  Love making garments for myself, oh so satisfying.  Now I need to start on the Trouser Sewalong.

Margaret W gave me this wonderful stitchy loot!  Love it all.  In the mag there's a beautiful XS piece by Thea Dueck.

Margaret knows me too well ... It's super pretty. This will definitely jump into my 2011 to-do-list!

And this is a close up of the vintage lace in a key-chain holder.  Bought in London during Margaret's recent trip.  Too dainty.

Last week I also received a lovely gift from Faizon, from her trip to the UK in December last year.  I've been looking for the perfect Christmas Red tatting thread for some time now.  Size 30 or 40 is my preferred size.  Time to dust off my tatting shuttle :)  Thanks so much Faizon.  I have wanted to make a reverse colour option of this pouch I made some years ago.  The snowflakes were tatted by Faizon.

I've completed Part 2 of Lori's Midnight Stars Doll Quilt Along.  Loving the pace that Lori has set.

Tatted Doily Gift

This doily is for my friend's mom who is recovering so remarkably after a major surgery. I thought a small doily on her bedside table will brighten her room just a little.

I reliase now that the Size 20 thread I used did not yield a finer, more delicate look that I wanted to achieve. Because I wanted the doily to be of an acceptable size I opted for size 20. I must make a mental note to use 30 and finer.

Also I've wanted to tat Faizon's doily design for some time now and it had only 4 rounds, hence the eventual diameter of 4.5" at size 20.

Tatted Bookmark Exchange

Cross Bookmark
Tatted with DMC Cordonnet Special 60 in White
with pink DMC embroidery floss for tassle
(Design from an old freebie, sorry can't recall from which site)

Rosa posted that she has received the bookmark I sent her for the SNN Tatted Bookmark Exchange. I tatted a cross because from her blog she was always giving them away to family and friends. I figured it's time she received one :) Glad to hear from Rosa that the cross bookmark now resides in her bedside bible. I am oh so humbled...

Comment Notes: Thank you all for dropping by and your wonderful comments, makes me think I can fly ;) Thank you Karen for mentioning my tutorial on the Focus on Finishing blog, glad I could help in some small way.

Crochet...nay. Tatting...yay!!

I have requested earlier on as a favour if someone in my amazing group NNC would teach me crochet when we met. Yes we met alright, yes Emily and Faizon taught me alright but sadly nada... I think I'll never crochet again. Mind you it's not my teachers, it's just me :s I don't think I quite dig crochet afterall. I'll hang up my hooks up right this moment!

This is so awful, was supposed to be a pot holder, who am I kidding!

Now for the yay part. Faizon came over and sat next to me and she said "Would you like to learn the split ring?". I did not have a chance to answer ;) So armed with shuttles in her hand she showed me how. She made it look so darn easy. I should think she was actually saying "Come one get to the deep end, get off your comfort zone". And guess what, a split ring I did!! Yes!! You see what some words of encouragement can do. Thanks a mil Faizon. Here's the proof:

After every stitch of the split I had to check if the ring was still alive (tat talk)!

Also I had help from Jane. My fingers are now doing the itsy-weensy-spider! ;) Their well and alive! She's a super tatter and have recently adopted a family. A riot I assure you! :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
