Civil War Quilt Blocks 1/52

Jess alerted me Saturday night on a new Block of the Week that Barbara Brackman is doing to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.  I knew then and there that I need to get involved.  On Sunday morning I set about cutting and piecing the blocks together. And to think Barbara featured my block on the blog!  I'm totally chuffed!  Blogland is buzzing about this new project!

The red and white bear paw quilt top is completed.  It is now 46" square.  Still unsure how I'll be quilting it or when for that matter.  I need to get some piecing of bed quilts out of the way before I get to this again.

A Burda8368 blouse in the process.  It'll have 3/4 sleeves.  The instructions for the collar was vague but I managed it somehow.  I prefer hand stitching the inner collar piece down.  I'm trying very hard to ensure my construction is methodical, neat and generally done well.  Couture sewing ... here I come :)

Congratulations Barbara, on being featured on Barbara's blog. I have been an avid follower of her 'Material Culture' blog for quite some time, and it is exciting to see another blog especially for 150th anniversary of the beginning of the American Civil War. I think these blocks are going to be beautiful, but do I really need another project LOL, I may have to succumb too! I will watch with interest your progress on this project. Again, well done Barbara.......Merilyn

  4. Humm...I never heard anything about this blog quilt project and now am very tempted! Your block is absolutely beautiful. I love stories about the CW so I have to go check out this blog. One of the most precious quilts I created was of the Slave Quilt Code for which I even wrote a fictitious slave diary to go with the class. I have always called this quilt my baby.

Love your blouse. I used to sew my own clothes. This is going to be wonderful when you have it finished.

    Hugs from Holland ~

Thanks for the heads up about the Civil War blocks - I'll be keeping an eye on that this year, as this year is the year I finally do my first ever bed quilt (well, that's the plan anyway, if I can ever decide on the design!!) :D Your first block looks great :D
